Fenton’s Rink was opened in Kent in 2004. Ernest Fenton, and exiled scot was long frustrated at the lack of curling opportunities in England, made even more apparent by the GB women’s team winning Olympic Gold in 2002.
There was nowhere for the game to develop in England, so he decided to build one on his farm estate near Tunbridge Wells.
The rink attracted keen interest from other curlers in England who had led a nomadic existence up to that point.
These curlers formed the nucleus of playing numbers, and were soon eclipsed by both corporate outings and private parties like stag/hen events and birthday trips.
The local schools have been taking part in the schools championship organised by Fenton’s, and the local curling community is growing as more and more people catch on to the possibility of playing this Olympic Winter sport in Kent!
